Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has urged political leaders nationwide to take action and ease the suffering of Nigerians on a number of fronts as a result of poor governance and inefficiency, or prepare for a surprise from the electorate in the next 21023 federal elections.
Speaking to media in Benin City, Obaseki said that if nothing is done to change the narrative, Nigerians will reject the inefficiency and failings of government representatives and other figures.
He claimed that the populace is attentively monitoring the nation’s political climate and is prepared to surprise political parties with their new political stance.
“I am sure that we are all constantly monitoring the situation in the country, particularly the emerging political development,” Godwin Obaseki said. It is clearly obvious that Nigerians are fed up with the government and those who serve as their representatives in it. That is evident from their social media responses as well as the course of their behaviours and feelings.
“If we disregard the changes that are coming and continue to think that things are the same, we would be hurting ourselves as a government and as representatives of our people. As we start to realise, we will all be astonished.
“People are now realising that they need to demand more from those in charge of their resources, commonwealth, and government; they will cast their votes based on their preferences or interests.”
No political party today can beat its chest and declare that it will win or have a resounding triumph in the nation’s upcoming election, he continued.
“People are looking, and the only reason someone would go from their home to a voting booth is if they had a good reason to vote for or against anything. They are unlikely to vote on election day if they have not benefited.
The governor continued, “People will respond because they will wonder why you haven’t done what you’ve promised us and why you haven’t delivered. No one will escape. The new gang will take over and won’t spare the government employees; instead, they’ll put pressure on them so that lawmakers lose their jobs.
We in Edo State are fortunate in that we were able to foresee it, lay up a plan, and prepare for it. However, a lot of people don’t accept this, believing that there is still time and that everything would proceed as usual.
