The Nigerian Army has detained a soldier for allegedly stealing and supplying munitions to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
The soldier, named as Iorliam Emmanuel of Benue State, is claimed to be assigned to the 156 Task Force Battalion (Operation Hadin Kai) in Mainok, Borno State.
Mainok, 60 kilometres from Maiduguri, is the seat of Borno State’s Kaga Local Government Area.
Colleagues reveal the rounds the suspect stuffed inside and underneath his clothes in a popular video on social media.
Emmanuel was apprehended with ammunition hidden in a sack and cloths knotted around his waist.
“How do you envision your life? You will go and offer these items to Boko Haram so that they can attack us in this camp. Don’t be concerned. “May God have mercy on you,” one of the troops is heard saying in the video.
“All these don tey, they don rust,” a soldier stated of ammunition that looked to have been in the suspect’s possession for some time.
Previously, Zamfara Police Command agents detained alleged informants and arms suppliers who operate with bandits in the state.
“The malicious actions of this syndicate group were to provide information to bandits in order for them to generate money.”
According to Sheu, the command also apprehended an ex-soldier named Saidu Lawal on August 27 for supplying arms to criminals.
General Officer Commanding 3 Division in Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau, Ibrahim Ali, had already issued a warning to any soldier engaging in illegal arms trading.
“Let me warn you that any personnel participating in any illicit guns and ammunition sale would face severe consequences,” he had added. Emmanuel will most likely face court martial for the offence committed.”
