Don’t Blame Judges, Blame the Law and Lawmakers, Says Falana
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Femi Falana has said Nigerians should stop blaming the judges who presided over the tribunal, adding that the law and the lawmakers are to blame.
Falana said that in order to change the judiciary, amending the law would also be necessary.
He said that Nigerians were being unfair when they held judges responsible for applying the law incorrectly.
He made reference to a clause in the electoral law of 2010 that gave any Citizen the right to challenge any claims made by any candidate before to an election.
He claimed that the legislators removed the provision stating that such matters should be addressed within the political party.

You will transform the judicial system by reforming the legislation, he asserted in an interview with Arise News.
Falana said: “With honesty, they didn’t reform the law. In the 2010 electoral act, section 34 gave every single citizen the locus standi to challenge the information provided by any candidate.
“But these guys removed that section and amended the constitution to defer that only members of the political party can challenge the nomination, the disqualification, or the sponsorship of a candidate.”
He added: “Instead of looking at the law, we are blaming judges for interpreting the law as it is and not as it ought to be.
“That is why the law is so fundamental. Once we have reformed the law and we set in place the electoral offenses tribunal, then we can deal with those who manage the institution dubiously and criminally.”
