Adewumi Adeyemi, the member representing the Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, has refuted the statement signed by the Assembly’s spokesperson, Moshood Akande that the lawmakers kicked against the reversal of Osun State name.
He said that the lawmakers did not study Governor Ademola Adeleke’s inaugural address during any of its sittings.
Adeyemi said: “As a lawmaker who regularly attends plenary, I affirm unambiguously that the Assembly has not met since the governor’s inauguration last Sunday 27 November 2022.”

Adeyemi’s stance was in response to a statement signed by the Assembly’s spokesperson, Moshood Akande, claiming that the members had reviewed Adeleke’s inaugural address and taken specific stances.
“The State of Osun House of Assembly, having examined the Governor’s inaugural speech and the activities of the inauguration, now resolves as follows,” Akande stated in his statement.
Akande said: “As an enactment of law, the use of the state anthem, crest, and flag is a matter of law, not choice.”
“The enactment, ‘State of Osun Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law, 2012,” assented to on December 18, 2012, contained in Schedules I, II, III, IV, and V, which carefully detail every component of this law, is clear.”
“Schedule I is the state anthem, Schedule II is the state crest, and Schedule III is the symbolic importance of the flag’s parts,” Akande said.
“Finally, while we are aware of a court decision effectively recognising ‘Osun State,’ the Assembly would not be brought into this matter pending the outcome and exhaustion of all legal measures.”
“However, the State shall and will continue to be known as the Virtuous State (Ipinle Omoluabi),” Akande stated
However, Adeyemi stated that he had been attending plenary on a regular basis and that Adeleke’s address had never been debated by the lawmakers.
Adeyemi, on the other hand, urged MPs to keep working together and support the incoming government.
