Aliko Dangote Foundation 2025 National Food Intervention Project Begins Nationwide

In a major move to combat hunger and support vulnerable Nigerians, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched the 2025 National Food Intervention Project, valued at N16 billion. Over one million Nigerians across the country will receive a 10kg bag of rice each, as part of the initiative, which kicked off on Thursday in Kano State.

The Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mr. Aliko Dangote, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to tackling food insecurity in Nigeria. Represented by his daughter, Marya Aliko Dangote, he described the project as an act of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility amid the country’s economic challenges.

“This annual initiative is part of our response to the economic difficulties facing our nation. It reflects our commitment to supporting our communities in line with our core values,” Dangote stated.

1 Million Bags of Rice to Be Distributed Across 774 LGAs

The 2025 National Food Intervention Project will reach all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria, ensuring that the most vulnerable citizens receive direct food support. The initiative, which started in Kano, will move to other states as the distribution progresses.

According to Mr. Dangote, food security remains a fundamental human necessity, and his Foundation is determined to bridge the hunger gap through this large-scale food distribution initiative.

“We are collaborating with state governments to ensure that food aid reaches the most vulnerable individuals in each state,” he added.

Kano State Kickoff: 120,000 Bags for Distribution

At the official launch event in Kano State, Governor Abba K. Yusuf commended the initiative, describing it as a testament to Aliko Dangote’s unwavering commitment to addressing hunger and poverty in Nigeria. The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gworzo, announced that Kano State alone would receive 120,000 bags of 10kg rice for distribution across its 44 LGAs.

“Mr. Dangote has consistently demonstrated his dedication to humanitarian causes. A similar event was held last year, where he personally oversaw the distribution of food supplies to the underprivileged,” the Governor noted.

To ensure transparency and fairness, the state government has established a monitoring committee that includes:

• Representatives from relevant ministries
• Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)
• Religious leaders
• Local authorities
• The Hisbah Board
• Security agencies

Dangote Foundation’s Commitment to Fighting Hunger

Speaking to journalists, Managing Director and CEO of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, emphasized that the Annual National Food Intervention Project aligns with the Foundation’s mission of giving back to society and complementing government efforts in alleviating hunger and poverty.

“Mr. Dangote is passionate about philanthropy and committed to ensuring that hunger is either eradicated or significantly reduced in Nigeria,” she stated. “The launch in Kano is just the beginning; we will extend the distribution to other states in the coming weeks.”

Religious Leaders and Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

The Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board in Kano, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, praised the Aliko Dangote Foundation for its lifesaving intervention, urging more wealthy Nigerians and organizations to emulate Dangote’s philanthropic efforts.

Similarly, Ibrahim Ahmed, a representative of the poor and vulnerable beneficiaries, expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Dangote, praying for continued success in his business endeavors.

ADF’s History of Philanthropy and Impact

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has been at the forefront of humanitarian aid, supporting Nigerians through various crises. Some of its notable interventions include:

• N153 million to Nigeria’s fight against Ebola Virus Disease in 2014
• $3 million donation to the African Union (AU) for pandemic response
• N66.66 million invested in installing thermal scanners at Nigeria’s four international airports
• N2 billion COVID-19 relief fund donation under the CACOVID initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Government, NCDC, and WHO

Beyond healthcare, ADF has made significant contributions to education, including:

• N1.2 billion modern business school donated to Bayero University, Kano
• A fully equipped 2,160-bed hostel for Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
• N300 million building donation to the University of Ibadan Business School

Internationally, the Aliko Dangote Foundation has also stepped up in times of crisis, donating $1 million to support victims of earthquakes in Nepal.

Public-Private Partnerships Needed to End Hunger

Mr. Dangote urged other industrialists and businesses to support the fight against hunger, emphasizing that such efforts should not be left to the government alone.

“This is a call for public-private partnerships to help put food on the tables of vulnerable Nigerians,” he said.
