The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has arrested and paraded over 300 suspected criminals in the last three months.
Details of the Arrests
The arrests were announced by Amotekun’s Commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, in Akure, the state capital. Adeleye stated that the suspects were apprehended in 15 locations across the state’s 18 local government areas.
According to Adeleye, most of the suspects were arrested for offences such as:
- Kidnapping
- Armed Robbery
- Housebreaking
- Other minor crimes
Grassroots Intelligence at Work
Chief Adeleye attributed the success of the operations to grassroots intelligence, emphasizing:
“We rely heavily on grassroots intelligence… All the criminals we have apprehended so far were as a result of the grassroots intelligence reports we received from villages and towns within the state.”
He also highlighted the role of Amotekun ambassadors, who discreetly gather information across towns and villages to identify bad actors.
Ensuring Security in Ondo State
Adeleye assured residents that Amotekun is determined to make the state unsafe for criminals. He further lauded Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for creating an enabling environment for the security outfit to operate effectively.
“We have put in place some strategy that will make the state too hot for [criminals] to stay. There’s no cause for alarm as we are on high alert,” Adeleye said.
