On Sunday in Niger State, a few members of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) were killed by the Nigerian Army.
They were destroyed while trying to liberate their leaders who were held captive at a Nigerian Army facility.
According to a defence intelligence officer who spoke with PRNigeria, the Nigerian Army had anticipated the terrorists who were ambushed.
“Even though the incident occurred at night, the troops had been prepared for such risky actions and were on high alert.
They fell victim to our trap. One of the fighters’ commanders was taken into custody by the Nigerian Army while at least seven bodies were counted, according to the source.
The 401 Air Combat Training Group (ACTG) of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) provided assistance to the Wawa Cantonment soldiers in the Borgu Local Government Area.
A NAF base in Borgu LGA is home to American-purchased A-29 Super Tucanos as well as Alpha jets.
The 221 Light Tank Battalion is based out of Wawa Cantonment, which is in the New Bussa neighbourhood close to the Benin Republic border.
The Army base houses a large number of terrorism suspects who are being tried.
The formation was home to over 2,500 suspects, according to a 2017 federal government announcement.
A special Federal High Court set up to hear matters involving terrorism imprisoned 113 Boko Haram militants in 2018.
