ASUP Proceeds On Strike

As of September 21, 2022, the Federal Polytechnic Ado Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) is on indefinite strike.

On Wednesday morning, the union members blocked traffic from entering the polytechnic by closing the school entrance and demanding that the administration meet their requests.

The Union expressed dissatisfaction over the harassment of their members by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ICPC, according to the information gathered.

The EFCC is harassing several of our members; they were profiled and required to post sureties in order to be released.

All academic activities would be suspended till the staff harassment stops, according to ASUP-FPA PRO Comrade Abel Makinde.

The Union also alleged false accusations against the school administration and threatened to file a lawsuit for a court order against the EFCC and ICPC for the ongoing abuse of their employees.

The polytechnic has suspended all academic activity till further notice.

The school administration has not yet responded or issued a statement in response to the union’s demands.

While some students at the satellite campus were turned away around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, others attended lectures this morning.

The president of the Students Union government responded to the strike action by saying, “At this time, let’s keep our fingers crossed as we hope and pray for swift resolution.”
