Amanda Azubuike, a Nigerian-born Igbo of ethnicity, has been promoted from Lieutenant Colonel to Brigadier General of the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, USA.
Azubuike, who was born in London, England, to Nigerian parents, joined the US Army in 1994 and became an aviator after passing the Army Aviation Officer Basic Course.
General James Rainey, Commander of the US Army Futures Command, said of Azubuike’s leadership qualities, “she makes everyone around her better.”
She continued her career in the Army as a public affairs and relations officer after her 11-year career in aviation.

Azubuike is currently a Deputy Commanding Officer at the US Army Cadet Command and previously worked as a Chief of Staff/Senior Military Advisor in the Secretary of Defense’s Office. She also served as the Chief of Public Affairs for the United States Southern Command in the Fort Lauderdale area, as well as the Director of Public Affairs for the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/Military District of Washington.
She also worked as a communications consultant for the National Football League Players Association and on the public relations staff of the Washington Redskins, an NFL franchise.
In addition to her Army credentials, Gen. Azubuike holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication/Media Studies from the University of Central Arkansas, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, and a Master of Professional Studies in Public Relations/Corporate Communications from Georgetown University.
