Call for Fuel Price Reduction to N300 per Litre
Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reduce the price of fuel to N300 per litre to enable Nigerians to celebrate the festive season with ease.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, George emphasized that the reduction should be implemented by mid-December and remain effective until the end of January to alleviate financial burdens on citizens.
“By the middle of this month, President Tinubu, if he truly believes Nigerians voted him into power, should give back to the people. The months of December and January are universally significant, and a fuel price cut to N300 per litre would bring joy to Nigerians,” George stated.
Festive Fuel Price Relief Proposal
The PDP stalwart explained that the government could absorb the financial losses as a goodwill gesture during the festive period.
“Reducing petrol prices will send a message of happiness across the nation. It will have a positive impact on homes and drive down the cost of goods. It’s a challenge the government can take up,” he said.
George also suggested that if the First Lady could donate N1 billion to a university, resources could be redirected to subsidize fuel costs during this critical period.
On PDP’s Internal Crisis and Path to 2027
Addressing the current challenges within the PDP, George expressed optimism that the party would resolve its internal crises before the 2027 general elections. He criticized individuals whose ambitions have destabilized the party, urging a return to the founding principles of zoning and rotation as enshrined in the PDP constitution.
“The PDP constitution emphasizes zoning and rotation for party positions and elective offices to ensure justice, equity, and fairness. We need to restore these values to stabilize the party,” George said.
Reflecting on the party’s history, George blamed recent crises on manipulations that prioritized personal ambitions over collective goals.
“Whoever places their ambition above the corporate ambition of the PDP undermines its stability. We must confront these truths and restore the doctrines handed over to us by the party’s founding leaders,” he added.
