E-hailing Company Calls for Justice as NSCDC Officers Face Investigation
Benin City, Nigeria – February 7, 2025 – Leading e-hailing company, Bolt, has reacted to the tragic death of one of its drivers, Henry Osemwenkhia, who allegedly died following an assault by four personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Benin City.
Driver’s Death Sparks Investigation
On February 4, 2025, Osemwenkhia had lodged a formal complaint at the New Etete Police Station, alleging he was brutally beaten by NSCDC officers and some individuals after an altercation at De Kaso Hotel, Limit Road, Benin City.
According to the Edo State Police Command, Osemwenkhia was given a medical report for treatment, but he was later found dead in his home the next day while waiting for the results of a medical scan.
Following this development, the police have vowed to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
Bolt Reacts, Condemns Violence Against Drivers
In a statement on Friday, February 7, 2025, Bolt Nigeria’s General Manager, Osi Ogun, extended condolences to the deceased driver’s family and reiterated the company’s zero-tolerance policy on violence.

NSCDC Officers Arrested as Investigation Continues
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest of four NSCDC officers allegedly responsible for the assault that led to Osemwenkhia’s death.
He revealed that Osemwenkhia had reported the assault incident after dropping off a passenger. However, his condition deteriorated, leading to his untimely demise.
The Edo State Police Command has assured the public of a thorough investigation, pledging that justice will be served.
