Don’t Destroy Campaign Materials, Ortom Warns
Benue state’s governor, Samuel Ortom, has threatened legal action against anyone found destroying political opponents’ campaign signs, billboards, and other advertising materials.
Because he believes in guaranteeing a level playing field for everybody, the governor stated that his government would not allow such behaviour from anyone who supported his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, or opposition political groups.
Terver Akase, the Governor’s Special Adviser for Media and Publicity, released a statement in Makurdi that read in part, “Democracy ensures freedom for everyone to campaign without harassment or molestation.”
Samuel Ortom emphasised that no person or organisation has the authority to remove an opponent’s campaign materials for any reason at all, and he vowed not to let it in the state. You can read more of such stories at Credible News.
“As a government, we will not permit anyone to demolish the campaign signs, billboards, or other materials of political rivals in Benue state,” the governor declared. Because it is against the law, we will not put up with it.
Because we will not tolerate such behaviour from anyone, we are advising anyone involved in such behaviour to desist or be ready to face the law if detected.
Samuel Ortom also issue a caution to political parties, candidates, and supporters, asking them to always ensure that their billboards and banners were built in authorised sites.
He further seeks to stop defacing Makurdi and other towns in the state with careless campaign material placement.
Governor Samuel Ortom recommended anyone interested in erecting a billboard in the state first acquire permission from the appropriate administrative entities.
