The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 32-year-old blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for allegedly cloning the agency’s official website to perpetrate a fraudulent recruitment scheme.
Details of the Arrest
Augustus, a self-proclaimed content creator and graduate of the University of Uyo, was tracked and apprehended by DSS operatives at his residence on Akpan Eno Street, Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
According to DSS sources, Augustus created a counterfeit DSS website to advertise fake recruitment opportunities, aiming to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of job application fees.
Agency’s Response
The DSS has officially disclaimed the recruitment scheme, describing it as a scam and issuing a strong warning to the public to disregard any such announcements.
A source within the DSS confirmed:
“He will soon be arraigned in court.”

The DSS has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians and advised the public to remain vigilant against online scams, particularly those exploiting government agencies’ identities.
