BENIN CITY – Leaders from Edo State have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, describing him as a fearless advocate for justice, a visionary leader, and a pillar of truth in Nigerian politics.
Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, former Labour Party governorship aspirant Kenneth Imansuagbon, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Charles Idahosa, were among those who paid glowing tributes to the late leader.
Governor Okpebholo: “Nigeria Has Lost a True Giant”
A statement by Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, described Chief Edwin Clark as a revered statesman, former National Commissioner for Information, and a respected leader of the South-South region.
“Today, Edo State mourns the loss of a true giant,” said Governor Okpebholo. “Edwin Clark dedicated his life to the service of our region and our nation. His contributions as an advocate for education and a champion of social justice have left an indelible mark on our history. He was a man of integrity, vision, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of our society.”
The governor further stated that Chief Clark’s guidance and mentorship would be deeply missed, as he inspired generations of young leaders and public servants.
Kenneth Imansuagbon: “A Fearless Voice for Truth”
Former Labour Party governorship aspirant, Kenneth Imansuagbon, described Chief Clark’s death as a monumental loss to Nigeria.
“In a country where almost everyone is a liar, we have lost a man of truth,” Imansuagbon stated.
He recalled his last visit to the late leader in 2024, during which they discussed national issues. “He never shied away from saying what needed to be said, no matter how uncomfortable it was.”
Hon. Charles Idahosa: “He Lived for His People”
APC chieftain, Hon. Charles Idahosa, also paid tribute, highlighting Clark’s lifelong dedication to his people.
“He lived a good life, he was outspoken, and he fought for his people,” Idahosa said. “I knew him as a young man when he was our Commissioner for Education. He was a great man. May his soul rest in peace.”
A Lasting Legacy
Chief Edwin Clark was known for his relentless advocacy for social justice, education, and good governance in Nigeria. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
