El-Rufai Denounces Kaduna Lynching Of Herders, Says It’s Illegal
The killing of two herdsmen by a crowd on Sunday in Kaduna State’s Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area has been denounced by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner for internal security and home affairs, claimed that the crowd killed two herders after seizing them by force and accusing them of being involved in banditry.
Even though the herders had not been found guilty of the accusations, the mob subsequently lynched and set them on fire, he claimed.
He claimed that El-Rufai voiced grave worry regarding the herders’ extrajudicial killings.
The governor asked the victims’ relatives to maintain their composure while directing security personnel to launch a comprehensive inquiry.
The commissioner stated, “The killing of two herders by a mob in Birnin Gwari, LGA, has been strongly denounced by the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
According to security services, the mob took the two herders away from security agents after falsely accusing them of being involved in banditry. The herders were lynched and set on fire by the mob after they were judged not guilty of the accusations.

“Governor El-Rufai vehemently denounced the extrajudicial executions and voiced his serious concern over the mob’s violent conduct. He emphasised that the only proper course of action in dealing with any accusations of wrongdoing is to use legal means.
“El-Rufai urged the victims’ families to maintain their composure and ordered security authorities to conduct in-depth investigations in an effort to identify the offenders.
”El-Rufai has also instructed the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to coordinate with the military, police, and DSS to get in touch with the families of the victims in order to continue efforts to prevent counterattacks.”
”Governor El-Rufai also forbade further acts of self-help and warned against harmful stereotyping, labelling, and other illegal behaviours that could incite violence. He made fresh pleas for regular access to established agencies.
“Similarly, the government of El-Rufai has received information from security authorities about the actions of some people and organisations in the region, who unintentionally make the security situation worse by making offensive public statements. Security authorities have determined that such actions are detrimental to the current operations against terrorists and criminals.
“The Kaduna State administration of El-Rufai is not opposed to commentary on security issues, but the government’s attitude is still that people and organisations with good knowledge should work with security services rather than put civilians in grave danger through purported lobbying.”
