FG Plans Flyover on Abuja-Lokoja Highway to Counter Flooding, Announces Umahi

The Federal Government will build a flyover to reduce the issue of flooding along the Abuja-Lokoja motorway, according to Minister of Works David Umahi.

A day after taking office, Umahi made this statement while inspecting current development projects on the Abuja-Lokoja route.

The minister travelled to various job sites with the governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, and a few directors from the ministry.

We have observed the Koton Karfe section region that is constantly under water, and the only way to fix it is to perform a flypast over it while flying above the flood level, Umahi stated. That will actually work because it is only 1.6 kilometres long and requires five flyovers, multiplied by two, you know.

We will thus put out a proposal for the President’s approval because we want to find long-term answers to our difficulties.

The Kogi governor also spoke about the initiative and praised the minister for picking the state for his first field assignment.

Bello stated, “It is excellent that Mr. President sent the Honourable Minister to investigate this specific issue just a day after his inauguration. We shouldn’t expect more, in my opinion.

“I thank you, sir. The road is going to be built in such a way that it will withstand any flooding that may occur in the future.”
