Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu, not the National Assembly, was responsible for his exclusion from the ministerial list.
Tinubu Withdrew Ministerial Offer
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday, El-Rufai dismissed reports that the Senate rejected his nomination due to security concerns.
“The National Assembly had nothing to do with it. The president didn’t want me in his cabinet,” he said.
He disclosed that despite extensive negotiations and Tinubu’s personal request for his support, the president later changed his mind about including him in the cabinet.
Criticism of APC Leadership
El-Rufai, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also expressed concerns over the party’s declining internal democracy since Tinubu’s inauguration.
“I’m a founding member of the APC, but I have concerns about how the party is being run… Two years after Tinubu’s election, none of the party’s organs is functioning, and its progressive ideals are not being pursued with any vigour,” he stated.
No Security Report Against Me— El-Rufai
Addressing claims of security concerns, El-Rufai challenged the allegations, stating that no official report existed against him.
“What was the security issue the National Assembly had against me? Where is the report? There were far less qualified, less experienced nominees who scaled through because the president made a call,” he argued.
Despite the setback, El-Rufai maintained that he does not need a ministerial position, reiterating that he is “a self-made man” who only wanted to contribute under specific conditions.
