China’s Former Justice Minister Is Currently Incarcerated For Corruption
Fu Zhenghua, a former justice minister of China who led multiple anti-corruption campaigns, was imprisoned for bribery.
In July, Fu Zhenghua entered a guilty plea to collecting 117 million yuan ($14.7 million; $16.5 million) in gifts and cash.
According to Chinese media, Fu Zhenghua was given a death sentence with a two-year commuted term to life in prison.
His conviction coincides with a dramatic crackdown on Chinese Communist Party officials (CCP).
The once every five years main party Congress of China’s ruling party will be held next month, where President Xi Jinping is anticipated to secure an unprecedented third term and consolidate his control.

Fu Zhenghua was imprisoned after three former police officials were sentenced this week. All four guys are charged with both corruption and Mr. Xi disloyalty.
They are all accused of belonging to a corrupt political group that was commanded by Sun Lijun, an additional former security official who is now awaiting sentencing.
Following a career that saw his rise from being a police officer to the deputy head of China’s Ministry of Public Security, Fu served as the country’s justice minister from 2018 to 2020.
He oversaw several prominent investigations into dishonest politicians, including one that resulted in the conviction of bribery of Zhou Yongkang, one of the most influential officials to do so in recent memory.
The internal watchdog of the CCP declared in October of last year that it was looking into Fu Zhenghua for “severe violations of discipline and national regulations.”
Fu Zhenghua was removed from office and afterwards expelled from the Community Party in March of this year. A month later, he was detained on corruption-related accusations.
According to the prosecution, Fu Zhenghua used his position of power to pursue benefits for both himself and others in business deals, political campaigns, and even court matters.
