The late former governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has received praise from Ondo State Governor Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, who described him as an administrator par excellence.
According to Akeredolu, in order to advance the state, the succeeding administrations have been implementing the development policy blueprint created by the Agagu administration.
The Ondo Governor made this statement on Friday in Akure, the state capital, at the 10th memory ceremony and colloquium for the late former governor of the state.
The governor characterised the late Agagu as a wonderful administrator who believed in transparency and accountability in order to establish good administration and reduce corruption. The governor was represented at the event by the state commissioner for agriculture, Mr. Olayato Aribo.
One won’t quickly forget his announcement of the “Ondo State Roadmap to Development, 2003-2007: that the sun might shine again” development policy blueprint, he claimed. He was followed by succeeding administrations in formulating their policy texts, such as our 8-point “REDEEMED Agenda.”
“We will not forget his practicability as deputy governor in using his resourcefulness, knowledge and profession as a geologist, to influence Ondo State in becoming an oil-producing State. We all are enjoying this till today in terms of an expanded economy. He was also the Minister of Aviation and later Minister for Power and Steel, which also brought us many dividends in Ondo State.
“If not for the truncation of his administration, he had great plans to bring to reality and completion bitumen exploration, Olokola Free Trade Zone, Omotosho Power Plant, Ondo Seaport and others.”
Mr. Victor Olabimtan, the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly and Chairman of the Agagu Remembrance Anniversary Organising Committee, said in his remarks that the late former governor was not only a unifying force while he was alive but also a bridge builder who also served the state with all of his heart.
“When living, Agagu served as a unifying force. His spirit has kept on its course of selfless service to humanity even after passing away. Today, we honour not only his passing but also the innumerable instances of happiness and love that infused our lives with his energy, Olabimtan emphasised.
On September 13, 2013, the former governor, who was 65 years old, passed suddenly. He was buried in his hometown of Iju Odo in the Okitipupa Local Government.
