Fear as armed men attack residents in Sokoto

As suspected gunmen allegedly attacked two Sokoto settlements on Sunday evening, there was terror.

The two communities are Bubari and Durbawa, which are both in the Denge-Shuni and Sokoto South Local Government Areas, respectively, according to a source who spoke with our correspondent.

According to the source who briefed our correspondent over the phone, the gunmen rode into Durbawa and Bubari on motorcycles and began shooting randomly.

However, the source was unable to confirm any casualties but did reveal that the suspects had stolen some animals from the area.

The Sokoto State Police Command verified the attack by the gunmen while at the same time reassuring the public that security personnel are on the case.

In a text message answer to Punch correspondent, the command’s spokesman, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, stated, “We are on top of the issue, under control.”

While this report was being written, other locals pledged to delay their return to the impacted areas until Monday.
