First Bank Gets Haulage Awards Excellence
The First Bank of Nigeria Plc has been honoured with a Haulage Award of Excellence for its outstanding contributions to the haulage industry and society at large.
The awards were presented to a very honourable representative of First Bank Nigeria Plc on Tuesday at the Stable Hall, Bode Thomas Surulere Lagos, during the 5Haulmace 2022 of Haulage & Logistics Magazine Annual Conference & Exhibition, with the programme theme “Developing an adaptive framework in the Nigerian haulage and logistics industry: an imperative for stability in an environment.”
In his contribution during the interactive session, one of the stakeholders, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, requested that proper collaboration be ensured between the Haulage industry and the three tiers of government in order for their company’s rights to be respected also in the country as law abiding citizens.
He explained how the company had been subjected to an unjust and unconstitutional punishment of multiple taxes by the Nigerian government for so long, and that there was no advocate or union willing to fight for the cause; that there was a need to establish a body that would not let their cries go unheeded.
During his welcome presentation, Mr Alfred Okugbeni, convener haulmace, presented a brief history of tomorrow authored by Israeli author Yuval Noah Harari, a professor of History at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
According to the author, he stated, “Over the past century, humanity has managed to do the impossible.”
For thousands of years, the three human calamities that climbed to the top of life’s unchangeable issues, always at the top of humanity’s to-do list, were Famine, Plague (Infection Disease), and War. For thousands of years, intellectuals and prophets have speculated and foretold with no success. These three continued to perplex humanity.
However, according to Dr. Harari, mankind have conquered these three major obstacles that were once “tormentors in chief” in this third millennium.

He stated on famine that man has been able to evolve famine systems, which has enabled him to withstand crop loss due to drought. People would never longer die of hunger, hence food production was no longer an issue for humanity.
On sickness, he stated that, unlike the Middle Ages, when diseases and plagues killed millions, men have been able to produce remedies, which has resulted in fewer deaths.

Mr Deji Ogunde, the Keynote Speaker, spoke extensively on the programme theme “Developing an adaptive framework in the Nigerian haulage and logistics industry,” where he selected his message through a conceptual framework that includes supply risk, process risk, demand risk, control risk, and management impact within the environment.
Reading over its management risk, he stated that the Covid 19 pandemic crisis damaged the supply chains of almost 94 percent of Fortune 1000 organisations.
While recommending that which is most suitable to the society of Nigeria haulage and logistics industry as Innovation, Technology & Data, Collaboration, and workforce in order to encourage sustainable, excellent business connections and skilled personnel attraction.
Supply networks would also play an important part in the transition to a clean and socially just society.
Furthermore, sustainability policies are critical to avoiding the growing reputational, regulatory, and financial risks associated with poor environmental, social, and governance performance. He continued.
