ICPC Tracks N21 Billion Constituency Projects in Kaduna State

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced tracking constituency projects worth ₦21 billion in Kaduna State as part of efforts to promote accountability and transparency in the execution of publicly funded initiatives.
Speaking during the exercise, Haruna Aminu, Chief Superintendent at ICPC and representative of the Constituency and Executive Tracking Department under ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, stated that 60 projects across the state are under scrutiny.
Focus on Key Projects
The tracking began in Kafanchan, where the commission evaluated 21 projects, before shifting focus to Kaduna’s main town, including the Kabala area, to assess solar-powered streetlights and other projects.
“On the solar project, we have seen a level of execution. However, we discovered some challenges, especially regarding delays. This project is meant to impact people’s lives significantly,” Aminu said.
Addressing Delays and Abandoned Projects
The ICPC emphasized that incomplete projects have hindered their intended benefits, particularly those scheduled for completion in 2023.
“If these projects had been completed last year as planned, they would have made a significant difference in improving livelihoods,” Aminu noted.
The commission vowed to ensure contractors fulfill their obligations, emphasizing that:
- No contractor will escape accountability for receiving government funds without completing projects.
- The era of abandoned projects is over.
Next Steps: Clamping Down on Non-Compliance
The ICPC plans to escalate efforts by penalising contractors who fail to execute projects according to contract terms.
“The next phase will involve clamping down on contractors to ensure citizens receive the dividends of democracy,” Aminu added.
This tracking exercise is part of the ICPC’s broader mission to improve governance, ensuring that government resources deliver tangible benefits to communities across Nigeria.
