Court Orders INEC to Immediately Continue Voters Registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was directed to immediately begin the Continuous Voters Registration till 90 days before the 2023 general elections by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday.
In the ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo also gave INEC instructions to make sure that all eligible Nigerians received their voter registration cards in time for the upcoming election. You can read more of such stories at Credible News.

According to Justice Ekwo, the electoral umpire has a constitutional duty to ensure that the election is conducted in conformity with Nigerian law.
The judge said, “The plaintiffs’ case succeeds on merit.”
The plaintiffs maintained that INEC cannot halt the CVR in violation of the established constitutional provisions in the original summons submitted to the court.
They pleaded with the court to direct the electoral umpire to resume the process in conformity with national law.
In preparation for the elections in 2023, the Independent Electoral Commission, or INEC, completed the voter registration round on July 31.

The exercise, which began on June 28, 2021, and ended on July 31, 2022, on a Sunday.
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner of INEC and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made this announcement to reporters in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
As the Commission is also engaged in other operations leading up to the general elections, Okoye had previously stated that there was no way the exercise would continue.
You are well aware that the CVR’s expiration date was June 30, 2022, but the commission extended it by one month, to July 31, 2023.
The CVR cannot continue indefinitely. It must be ended at a specific period, thus the commission has chosen to do so on July 31.
“This will give us time to remove duplicate and numerous registrations. To have a clean voter list for the elections in 2023, we must complete this before then.
