INEC Distributes Sensitive Election Materials to Ondo State Ahead of November Governorship Elections

Akure, Nigeria – As Ondo State gears up for its upcoming governorship election on November 16, Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of essential election materials to all 18 local government areas within the state.

INEC’s Early Preparation for Fair and Transparent Elections

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, oversaw the material distribution at the Akure branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday. Mrs. Babalola emphasized that the timely distribution of sensitive materials showcases INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election.

“We promise transparency throughout the election process. The distribution is proceeding smoothly, with materials being delivered simultaneously across various local government areas,” Babalola said.

Ensuring Equitable Material Distribution Across Polling Units

Mrs. Babalola reassured residents and political stakeholders that all materials were carefully allocated to avoid any omissions across wards and polling units. She noted that the process was designed to keep every area prepared for a smooth election day experience.

Logistics and Security Measures for Difficult Terrains

INEC has taken special measures to address Ondo’s challenging terrains, particularly in Ilaje and Ese-Odo, which are only accessible by water. Boats, accompanied by Navy gunboats, will ensure secure transportation of materials and staff. In areas with rugged land terrain, vehicles will transport materials as far as possible, with alternative transport arranged to reach remote locations.

Political Parties and Security Agencies Praise INEC’s Transparency

Representatives from the major political parties, including All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairman Ade Adetimehin and Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairman Adesanya Olaoluwa, lauded INEC’s transparent approach. Both leaders assured their parties’ cooperation and commitment to a peaceful election process.

Call for Peaceful Elections

Mrs. Babalola urged all political parties and their supporters to maintain peace on election day and avoid post-election violence. Security agencies, including the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and others, have been mobilized to ensure a safe voting environment.
