Jill Biden Hosts Farewell Luncheon for Global First Ladies Amidst 79th UN General Assembly

By LEVI JOHNSON

In a heartfelt farewell luncheon, U.S. First Lady Jill Biden welcomed First Ladies from around the globe, including Nigeria’s Oluremi Tinubu, as part of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Reflecting on the meaningful relationships fostered during her time in the role, Jill Biden announced that this gathering would mark her final luncheon as First Lady of the United States.

On Wednesday, she expressed deep gratitude for the collaboration among the First Ladies in promoting peace and development across the world, emphasizing that their bonds would endure beyond her departure from office in January 2025.

“I appreciate you all for always attending this gathering. I have a strong feeling that I will see more of you in the next chapter of my life,” Jill Biden stated.

As the First Ladies prepared to return to their respective nations, she extended her best wishes, particularly to those facing long journeys ahead. The sentiments were captured in a statement shared on X by Busola Kukoyi, spokesperson for Tinubu.

These luncheons, a tradition during the UNGA, serve as vital platforms for global leaders and their spouses to engage in bilateral discussions, strengthen diplomatic relations, and cultivate partnerships.

Oluremi Tinubu’s attendance at the luncheon at Pier 57 in New York marked the conclusion of her activities during the 79th session of the UNGA.
