Kano State Closes Down Four Illegal Medicine Patent Facilities in Rogo Local Government Area

- PHIMA Takes Action to Sanitize Health Sector and Ensure Compliance
The Kano State Private Health Institution Management Agency (PHIMA) has shut down four medicine patent facilities in the Rogo Local Government Area due to illegal operations and non-compliance with regulatory laws. This decisive action aims to enhance the integrity of the health sector in Kano State.
- Inspection Findings Lead to Facility Closures
The operation was led by PHIMA’s Director General, Prof. Salisu Tofa, who was represented by Director Abdussalam Zarewa during the inspection on Friday. Tofa highlighted that the facilities were found to be operating without proper registration and approval from the agency, violating established laws.
According to Zarewa, the facilities were conducting critical health services, including blood transfusions, blood tests, and intravenous drips, without the necessary laboratory infrastructure. “The facilities are operating illegally, which is against the laws of the agency. Hence, our decision to close them serves as a deterrent to others,” he stated.
- Facilities Identified for Closure
The following facilities were identified and closed for operating unlawfully:
Sayane Nagari – Damagari, Zoza Ward
Muktar Danjume – Taimakon Alumma, Kwanar Jajaye Ward
Jonathan Magaji – Rahab Philip Chemist, Barbaji Jajaye Ward
Blessing Yanoko Chemist – Yanoko Fulatan Ward
Additionally, **Maigayya Clinic and Maternity** in Yanoko Fulatan Ward has been summoned to appear before PHIMA. Failure to comply may result in complete closure of the facility.
- Call for Compliance and Registration
In light of the violations, Prof. Tofa directed the proprietors of the affected facilities to register with PHIMA and pay a compliance fee of N50,000 to legalize their operations. This step is crucial for ensuring that all health service providers meet the required standards set by the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria.
- Acknowledgment of Wrongdoing
In response to the agency’s directive, the proprietors of the closed facilities admitted their mistakes and expressed their intention to visit PHIMA’s office to comply with the necessary registration procedures. This acknowledgment marks a positive step toward rectifying their operations and aligning with regulatory standards.
As PHIMA continues its efforts to regulate and improve the health sector, the agency remains committed to safeguarding public health and ensuring that all health facilities operate legally and ethically in Kano State.
