The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has dismissed Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation, stating that it is a relief for the party and has no impact on its strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
Okonkwo’s Exit and Party’s Response
✅ Okonkwo, a former LP spokesperson, announced his resignation on Tuesday, citing the party’s “non-existence” as his reason for leaving.
✅ Arabambi reacted strongly, calling his resignation “good riddance to bad rubbish” and warning him not to speak about LP anymore.
✅ He denied claims that the party is in crisis, asserting,
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. The idea of LP going into extinction is just a figment of detractors’ imaginations.”
Allegations Against Okonkwo
🔹 Arabambi accused Okonkwo of working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections, claiming:
“Kenneth Okonkwo worked against Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar. He was with President Tinubu before.”
🔹 He added that LP will enforce discipline and loyalty moving forward, stating,
“In 2027, there will be no political rascality in our party.”
Debts and Fund Mismanagement Allegations
Arabambi also responded to concerns about LP’s debts to vendors, shifting the blame to:
🔹 Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Itua Ighodalo, claiming they were in charge of party finances.
🔹 He accused them of mishandling campaign funds and called for an EFCC investigation into:
- N12 billion in party donations.
- $15 million in alleged campaign fund diversions.
