Authorities Cite Threat of Forced Reinstatement of Impeached Speaker
Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State House of Assembly has clarified the presence of operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Assembly complex on Monday, February 17, 2025, stating that the move was a precautionary security measure.
Why DSS Operatives Were at the Assembly
According to the Acting Clerk of the House, A. Ottun, the Assembly requested security agencies to ensure order and prevent unauthorized access, not to seal off offices.
A letter dated February 14, 2025, with reference number LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, was sent to the DSS Director in Lagos and other security agencies, warning of a potential security threat.
Threat of Forced Return of Impeached Speaker
The letter cited “credible intelligence” suggesting that the impeached Speaker planned to forcibly resume office on February 18, 2025, which Assembly management viewed as a security risk.
“The impeached Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly poses a potential security threat to the Assembly and its members,” the letter stated.
Assembly Requested Heightened Security
To prevent any breaches, the Assembly requested:
✅ Increased security presence from Sunday, February 16, 2025
✅ Strict access control measures inside and outside the complex
✅ Continuous monitoring until further notice
“We look forward to your prompt attention, Sir. Thank you,” the letter concluded.
