LASU-SDG Recognizes New Cohort as SDG Champions in Drive for Sustainable Development

The Lagos State University Centre for the Actualisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals today, Tuesday, 5th December 2023, held a training and induction programme for SDG Champions. The program aimed to equip these individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), expressed the university’s commitment to contributing to the growth and development of individuals and making global impacts in all 17 SDGs. She highlighted the importance of the induction training in enhancing the understanding of the SDGs and providing practical techniques for project management, collaboration, and impactful communication.

The Vice-Chancellor urged all the champions to make the most of the training and embrace it as a stepping stone toward making a tangible difference in the society. “By working together, we can create a ripple effect that transcends boundaries and brings us closer to achieving the SDGs.” She concludes.

The first session of the training was led by Prof. Tayo Ajayi, Director LASU-SDG, who discussed the roles and responsibilities of SDG Champions, including raising awareness and engaging in actions to put pressure on decision-makers. Dr. Olayemi Soladoye, Assistant Director LASU-SDG, also gave a presentation on the alignment of Lagos State University with the SDGs. Lastly, Dr. Teslim Ojuromi, Deputy Director SDG, trained the champions on mapping initiatives to the SDGs within the university.

Overall, the induction training served as a stepping stone for the SDG Champions to make a tangible difference in the society and work towards achieving the SDGs.

The training and induction was well attended by members of staff of various faculties, schools, centres, units, and divisions. The vote of thanks was given by Mr Femi Akerele, Administrative Secretary LASU-SDG.
