Minister Lola Ade-John Fights for Life Amidst Allegations of Poisoning
Lola Ade-John, a freshly appointed minister in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, is reportedly being treated in an Abuja hospital for acute poisoning of unknown origin.
Ade-John, who is currently the minister of tourism, has raised concerns about the urgency needed to save her life from family sources.
According to trustworthy family sources, Ade-John, 60, was quickly brought to the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi as soon as poisoning symptoms started to appear. She has been there for four days as of Friday morning receiving medical attention.
According to people familiar with the issue, Ade-John is currently dependent on a breathing machine. The precise drug she took and the circumstances of the poisoning, however, have not been revealed.
Both the police and the State Security Service have not yet responded to inquiries regarding the initiation of any investigations into the matter.
The deteriorating condition of the minister has further exacerbated tensions within her family.
The Permanent Secretary of her ministry, Ngozi Onwudike, reportedly disagreed with the family over whether Ade-John should remain at a public hospital or be transferred to a better-equipped private facility in downtown Abuja.
Onwudike purportedly insisted on her continued treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, arguing that the hospital’s services would not impose substantial financial burdens on the government. In contrast, the family sought to relocate her to a private hospital but faced financial constraints, which prevented them from doing so.
Efforts to reach Ngozi Onwudike for comment were unsuccessful as her phone number did not connect on Friday morning. Likewise, a spokesperson for the Federal Medical Centre has not responded to requests for updates on Ms. Ade-John’s condition
