The warning came in a statement issued by Nura Maikwanci, Information/Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, on Tuesday, March 12, 2025.
Maikwanci confirmed that laboratory tests have detected multiple cases of meningitis, prompting the state government to intensify health interventions to prevent further spread.

In response to the outbreak, the Sokoto State Ministry of Health has ramped up surveillance, case management, and public health measures to contain the disease.
“To curb its spread, the Ministry has intensified surveillance, case management, and public health interventions,” the statement read.
Residents have been strongly advised to take preventive measures, including:
- Seeking immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms like fever, severe headache, or neck stiffness.
- Maintaining personal and environmental hygiene to reduce infection risks.
- Avoiding overcrowded places and ensuring proper ventilation in homes and public spaces.
