NAF Takes Action Against Illicit Refining: Illegal Sites Destroyed in Rivers and North-East
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) claimed to have completed effective airstrikes against terrorist hideouts and certain illicit refinery sites in Rivers State and other parts of the North-East.
This information was provided in a statement released by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the force’s director of public relations and information, on Sunday in Abuja.
The NAF statement reads, “On August 27, 2023, the air component of Operation Delta Safe conducted air interdiction missions on some illegal refining sites located at Cawthorne Channels, Bille, and Gogokori in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. This was done in continuation of efforts aimed at containing the activities of terrorists, militants, and other criminal elements bent on destabilising the nation and making life unbearable for peace-loving Nigerians.

“Having observed the sites to consist of illegal refining sites, the areas were attacked and destroyed. Specifically, at Gogokori, a Cotonou boat observed to be loaded with illegal refined products and heading into open waters was also engaged and destroyed.”
After receiving information on activities related to refining at the two places, NAF said that similar strikes were also carried out at Idama in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area and Omoma in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
NAF also, stated that on August 25, strikes were made at Chinene, a terrorist hideaway in the Mandara Mountains that had previously been targeted numerous times.
After observing that the region frequently hosted terrorist gatherings and operations, he continued, “The location was struck with many terrorists neutralised while others fled for their lives.”
By providing actionable information to security agencies, Gabkwet urged Nigerians to see themselves as a part of the solution to these problems.
