The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said that only Airtel Network Limited has emerged as the sole bidder for its 3.5 GHz frequency band for 5G deployment in the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NCC said no auction will take place because Airtel will be assigned one of the available lots of 100 MHz TDD spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band for the NCC’s reserve price of $273.60 million.
According to NCC, by Monday, December 5, 2022, just two companies had declared interest in the auction of its 3.5GHz spectrum band, but only one had paid the requisite intention to bid deposit.

Airtel and Standard Network and Connections Limited were the companies involved.
NCC said: “However, only Airtel paid the Intention to Bid Deposit as required in the Information Memorandum, whereas Standard Network made an email petition for the deadline to be extended by 12 working days, which was not acceptable in light of the auction timetable.”
“Having completed all of the requirements in the IM, Airtel has emerged as the single bidder.” As a result, no additional bidding will take place, and the Commission will move to the assignment stage in accordance with the published Information Memorandum guiding the licensing procedure.”
