Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, claimed he was “audacious enough” to win a third term in government if he had desired it.
This comes as he declares he won’t join the Labour Party’s Peter Obi’s presidential campaign, stating he has done his best by penning his endorsement.
These were addressed by the former president on Thursday during a virtual event hosted by Africa Leadership Group.
You will recall that Obasanjo presently supported Obi in his New Year’s greeting to Nigerians, which was headlined “My appeal to all Nigerians, particularly young Nigerians.”
The former leader of Nigeria claimed he had no regrets about it.

I am not on the campaign waggon, Obasanjo declared. I have been clear and used my experience to my advantage.
“There is no political party to which I belong. I won’t board any campaign buses. I’ve already stated what is best for the nation.
Nigeria is where it is now because of leadership, Obasanjo said when asked about qualities to watch for in the next leader.
“We must proactively look for men and women who possess the qualities, aptitudes, and attitudes necessary for effective leadership in this nation.”
However, the former president denied rumours that he desired to serve a third term as president of the nation.
According to Obasanjo, he could have had it if he had desired.
“I never asked for a third term,” Obasanjo declared. I would have gotten a third term if I had wanted one. I have the audacity to know how to acquire it.
Obasanjo demanded an amendment when discussing the Nigerian constitution, pointing out that no constitution was faultless.
Some people in Nigeria blame everything on the constitution, he added. Of course, there are flaws in our constitution, and no constitution is infallible and cannot be changed.
The devolution of authority, according to him, should be one of the provisions of the modified constitution.
