JAMB Reveals 6 Things Candidates Must Know Before CBT Exam
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has mandated that henceforth the conduct of the UTME will take these new rules.
According to Ishaq Oloyede, the UTME new rules have been published by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in its Weekly Bulletin of the Office of the Registrar.
In the publication, Oloyede pointed six new rules, including the implementation of duplicate fingerprints and exemption candidates.
Speaking on two fingerprints, Oloyede said, an applicant must use at least two fingers to print registration slips, and any of the two taken will be used for biometric authentication when they arrive at the testing centre on test day.
He insists that all candidates’ two verifiable fingers must be listed consecutively on their registration and exam slips.
Talking hard on illegal UTME centres, Oloyede, maintained that some tutorial centres and cybercafés are not permitted to take part in any of the board’s exams.
Professor Oloyede reiterated that no CBT centre would be permitted to work with the forbidden group, adding that any breach of the directive, whether partial or total, would result in the cancellation of the CBT centre’s licence.
Explaining further, Oloyede said if the new criteria are not met, no new Computer-Based Test centre will be accredited.
To this aim, he said zero thin clients or Remote Desktop Protocol are no longer acceptable in new CBT centres. Instead, laptop computer systems are required as clients.
Any client with less than 2 gigabytes of RAM must not be installed by any CBT centre.
The pre-accreditation test during the mock UTME and the dummy exam are the two Autobot tests that must now be administered in order for CBT centres to receive accreditation.
On accreditation for biometrics, the registrar further stated that all registration officers at approved CBT centres would have their biometrics taken before to the exercise.
In order to keep ahead of cheaters’ schemes and protect the integrity of the system, the board, as a proactive organisation, must change with the times, he stated.
At the registration point, Oloyede revealed that candidates with bad fingerprints would be scheduled for the examination as ‘Exemption Candidates’.

Their registration slips would be colour-coded and visually different from those for other candidates.
According to Oloyede, such candidates would sit their examination in Abuja on the last date of the national examination calendar and their results would not be released until after being subjected to proper scrutiny.
To further consolidate its data collection efforts, Oloyede stated that the board would consider separating UTME registration from that of Direct Entry beginning from 2023.
”And to further condone illegal admissions and printing of indemnity forms, all candidates’ registrations, including UTME, DE and others, must be completed with fingerprint authentication,” Professor Oloyede said.
