Oqua Etim, the Commissioner of Police in Gombe State Command, has revealed the reasons he beefed up security around the installations of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.
The CP said it aimed at coordinating a swift response to emergencies to ensure that enemies of the state do not destroy the ongoing peaceful political process towards the 2023 general elections.
Oqua Etim requested that the state Divisional Police Officers and their supervisory Area Commanders to guarantee the strategic deployment of tactical teams at INEC offices within their respective areas of responsibility.

The Commissioner of Police, earlier on Tuesday ordered the urgent deployment of the command’s operational apparatus around the important assets and facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Oqua Etim noted that the state police public relations officer, ASP Mahid Muazu, the commissioner’s direction was consistent with the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba’s directives.
“The deployments are to deter all criminal elements from having access to INEC facilities, to prevent any attempt to undermine the security around INEC facilities.”
