Television, FM Stations Shut Down For Covering PDP Rally

The Nigeria Television Authority, Gamji TV, Al-Umma TV, and Pride FM radio have been shut down indefinitely for covering the event organized by the Peoples Democratic Party in Zamfara State, The state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara has stated.

The government of Zamfara State said it shut down those three television stations and an FM radio station because media houses violated the law of the land.

“The state government has suspended all political activities in the state due to security challenges,” he said. However, the PDP disobeyed the order and held a rally in Gusau, the state capital, where one person was killed and 18 others were injured.

According to Dosara, “The four media houses, NTA, Gamji TV, Al-Umma TV, and Pride FM radio, were also present to cover the event despite being aware of the state government’s ban on political rallies.”
