According to the Oyo State administration, the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery committee in the state set aside N8,633,996,464 for palliatives.
Dotun Oyelade, the commissioner for Information and Orientation, said this at a news conference following the executive council meeting on Wednesday.
The Commissioner claimed that although the state government spent N5,997,124,964, local governments in the state invested N2,636,871,500 in food palliatives.
Remember how Governor Seyi Makinde said in a statement last week that full execution of the palliative distribution programme would start this week?
Oyelade therefore intimated that the distribution of palliatives will begin tomorrow (Wednesday) under the direction of Governor Seyi Makinde and a few top State officials, with complete distribution starting on Thursday in each geopolitical zone, covering 200 000 families in the first phase.
Prince Oyelade emphasised that the distribution will take place in various batches to help Oyo State’s residents.
Additionally, Oyelade’s distribution aims to allay the state’s inhabitants’ suffering brought on by the federal government’s elimination of fuel subsidies.
According to Oyelade, “the initial rollout of palliative care will effect about 1 million individuals if you estimate that every family has about six members.”

He stated that 10 kilogrammes of rice, 5 kg of garri, 5 kg of beans, 5 kg of yam powder, and 1 litre of vegetable oil would be distributed.
The flag-off, which Prince Oyelade stated is intended for the very lowest members of society, will take place concurrently in all the major zones, including Oyo, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, Ibadan Main, and smaller cities.
According to him, the distribution would be flagged off in Saki by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, and Ogbomoso would have the distribution flagged off by the Chief of Staff.
Debo Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, will lead the distribution in Ibarapa, while Wasiu Olatubosun, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, will lead the distribution in Ibadan North-West.
Food palliatives will cost a total of N5,273,743,000, according to the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, who also spoke in this regard.
Nonetheless, he claimed that the state’s Local Government Areas contributed N2,636,871,500 as a counterpart fund.
According to Musibau, N149,199,682 has been set aside by the government for the transport subcommittee.
According to him, the budget covers expenses for employees, branding for the buses, logistics, and diesel.
The Oyo State Government has set aside N1,701,053,782 for food security, which will benefit farmers, agropreneurs, small and medium-sized businesses, and other businesses, while the cost of loans for SMEs is N510,000,000.
