Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri has stated that the People’s Democratic Party is not ruling out discussions with the party’s five disgruntled governors to return to the PDP.
Diri stated this at a three-hour meeting on Tuesday with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Delta State counterpart, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to strategize and assure the PDP’s success in the upcoming presidential election.
Governor Duoye Diri, speaking on the position of the G-5 governors (Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State), said the party was not ruling out discussions with them to persuade them to return, support, and work for the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Diri said: “We want a united PDP, and each time we gather, we focus on and discuss unity. Even now, we are not ruling out engaging with our brothers; we have also explored the prospect of speaking with them about returning to our party.”
“We are calling on our brother-governors to be part of their own party and work in unison with every other person. “We still want our brother governors back so we can visit them as we visited our brother, Governor Okowa, who would be Vice-President of Nigeria by God’s grace,” Diri continued.
On his part, Governor Obaseki stated that the meeting was held at the Delta State Governor’s mansion at Owa Alero in Delta State to congratulate the party’s vice-presidential candidate and to wish him luck in the election.
Obaseki said: “A new year has begun. We go around as a family, wishing each other well and hoping that the new year brings good news to the celebration.
”We are here today to pay a visit to our brother, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party’s vice presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election.”
“We wish him well in this election year and by the grace of God, he will be the next VP of Nigeria. We pray to God Almighty that our wishes may come true in 2023,” Obaseki explained.
