The government denied Peter Obi’s jet permission to land at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu, thus he was unable to meet with supporters in Yobe on Tuesday.
It was heard that Obi and his running mate, Dr. Datti Baba Ahmed, will be in the state for the presidential campaign, which was set to begin at 11am at the Summit Conference Hotel in Damaturu.
While waiting for their arrival at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu, party members and candidates from all over Yobe State were unsuccessful. Obi did not arrive.
There was audible mumbling directed at the Labour Party presidential team as a result of the development, which caused resentment among the waiting party members and allies.
The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council’s North East coordinator, Hajiya Hauwa Bukar, had to step in to calm the enraged party members.
As she apologised to her followers, she blamed the lack of a landing permit for the Labour Party presidential plane on her assertion that Obi and Baba-absence Ahmed’s was unintentional. She said that the government had not issued the landing authorization.
She claimed that the denial might be the result of the Cargo Airport not having been formally inaugurated by the federal government.
