President Tinubu unveils plan to tackle education sector challenges and shape its future

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled plan to tackle the education sector many challenges and shape it’s future in the country.

While he acknowledged that the education sector faces many difficulties, Tinubu said he has a plan to deal with them and shape the future for our children.

He said this on Thursday in his speech at the 35th graduation ceremony of the Yaba College of Technology, Yabatech, Lagos where a total of 7,717 got the diploma and certificate of the College, with 254 having distinction.

He was represented by the Director of Legal Services, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Ezonebi Azobor.

He mentioned some of the difficulties, such as access, fairness, funding, teachers’ training and others.

He said: “The government knows the problems in the education sector. The problems, which include access, fairness, funding, teachers’ training, management, and technical and vocational education are being solved.

” A four-year strategic plan is being made, which will be a guide for the sector’s growth. A key step in this direction was the National Stakeholders workshop on October 19,2023 organised by the Federal Ministry of Education. The plan will help shape the future of education in our country.

“However, it is important to stress that these problems need joint efforts beyond the government. I urge all stakeholders, especially industry leaders, to support the government’s efforts by contributing to research, infrastructure, scholarships for poor students, training and job opportunities for graduates.

“The partnership will greatly improve the achievements made by agencies like TETFund, PTDF and international partners,”

The President said his administration would focus on science and technology and encourage the use of local technology in regular curriculum reviews.

He asked the leaders of tertiary institutions in the country to make sure that bad practices such as cultism, exam cheating etc are eliminated.

In his speech, the Rector, Dr Ibrahim Adedotun Abdul, called Yabatech a national treasure that should be given the needed attention.

His words: “I am happy to be the Rector on this occasion of the 35th graduation of this great institution of learning. It is the first higher institution in the country and this is my first graduation. We thank God for what we have done in the past six months that we have been in charge.

“At 76 years, Yabatech has become a national treasure and there is a need to improve and expand facilities. We are working to produce graduates that are independent and creative.”
