Tensions Rise Over Exclusion of Key Stakeholders
Efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restart oil production in Ogoni have hit a major roadblock as protests disrupted a planned congress in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Saturday.
The congress, organized by a group under the directive of National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, aimed to sensitize the Ogoni people on the oil resumption plan. However, the event was shut down by protestors carrying placards with messages such as:

The Ogoni oil resumption plan had already received mixed reactions before the protests. The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), the region’s leading rights group, accused the NSA of sidelining them from the discussions, warning that exclusion could lead to distrust and conflict.
MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke stated:
“The struggle of the Ogoni people has been championed by MOSOP. The exclusion of our group in this process raises serious concerns.”
The Ken Saro-Wiwa Exoneration Campaign (KSWEC) also condemned the approach, insisting that justice for the slain Ogoni Nine, including Ken Saro-Wiwa, must be a prerequisite for any oil-related talks.
