Governor Sani Allocates Half of Salary and Commissioners’ Salaries to Fund Three Kaduna Tertiary Institutions

Governor Uba Sani has disclosed that he’s presently succeeding in funding education in Kaduna State because he allocates half of his salary and his commissioners salaries to fund three Kaduna tertiary institutions.

He said: “When I assumed office as the governor of Kaduna State, I realised that in order to fund governance, including education, the executive arm of the state needs to sacrifice some conveniences.

”Therefore, I told my commissioners and other government appointees’ that I would sacrifice half of my salary to fund education because education is key. ”I also told them that I wouldn’t buy a single vehicle and that whatever government property we inherited from the previous administration, we would service and use.

I said: ”I will use my personal private car as my official car, reiterating that we wont buy any other cars as official car.”

Governor Sani who stated this on Monday night during his interview with Channel Television, said that his commissioners came to him later when they discovered that he made good on his promise to cut 50 percent of his salary. They also vowed to sacrifice 40 percent of their salaries. ”The commissioners said: We want to be like you.” We want to sacrifice 40 percent of our salaries like you did.”

He said it was easy to reduce school fees in Kaduna State University, Kaduna Polytechnics, Kaduna, and the College of Education, Gidan Waya-Kafanchan, because the people are poor. According to him, that is one of the ways to ensure that the children of the poor go to school. ”I realised that many of our students do go to neighbouring states for education,” he said.

”The rich have their children attend private universities because they can afford it. Only education can make the poor great.”
