Three female officers of the Rivers State Police CommandInspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau—were arrested under the Rumuokoro Flyover in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area for engaging in unauthorized and corrupt activities. The arrests took place on October 29, 2024, following a coordinated monitoring patrol by the Commissioner of Police’s team.

Details of the Arrest

Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer and Superintendent of Police, confirmed the arrests during a statement in Port Harcourt. She noted that the command had been monitoring the officers for some time based on reports of their illicit activities. At the time of their arrest, it was revealed that two of the officers were not wearing their police uniforms, further violating police protocols.

Iringe-Koko stated, “The operation led to the arrest of Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau, who were caught engaging in a corrupt practice against innocent motorists under the Flyover.” She added that their misconduct was recorded on video by a bystander, providing clear evidence of their actions.

Evidence and Immediate Response

During an immediate on-site investigation, the officers were searched, and cash extorted from motorists was recovered. This swift action underscores the command’s commitment to maintaining ethical standards within the police force.

Iringe-Koko emphasized that the officers are currently detained and awaiting appropriate disciplinary measures. The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its dedication to professional integrity and assured the public that any personnel found violating service principles will face accountability.
