Ukraine’s Lawyer Gives Reasons Country Won’t Negotiate With Russia To End War
Ukraine government lawyer, Andriy Kostin, the top prosecutor, has given reasons the country won’t negotiate with Russia to end the ongoing war.
US media recently asserted that American officials had urged the Ukrainian government to be more receptive to negotiations.
According to Andriy Kostin, the top prosecutor, Ukraine is not considering engaging in dialogue with Russia to settle the conflict.
Kostin posited that Russia must be held responsible for the conflict it started.
He renewed his calls for the creation of a special international tribunal and for the seizure of Russian assets as part of war reparations.
Concerns that the war is not just wreaking havoc in Ukraine but also elsewhere in the world were refuted by Mr. Kostin.
At his office in central Kyiv, a historic structure secured by armed soldiers, with doors blocked by sandbags and the lower level windows boarded up, he told me that “people are suffering because of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s aggression into Ukraine.”
“They don’t hear missiles; they have no idea what bombing is; they have no idea what killing, raping, or looting is.”
He recognised that food and fuel were more expensive in Europe, but he retorted by saying “Ukrainians are paying by their lives for the same battle.”
He was emphatic in his response, saying, “I don’t think the question of resuming any conversations is viable.

Since the early stages of the invasion, there have been no negotiations for peace between Russia and Ukraine, however in July, both parties accepted a grain deal mediated by the UN.
However, analysts think it will be challenging despite Mr Kostin’s call for an international tribunal. Russia and Ukraine, for example, have not ratified the Rome Statute, which founded the International Criminal Court.
However, Mr. Kostin emphasised the significance of international cooperation in gathering the evidence and witness testimony required to establish a case.
As Russia leaves Kherson, Ukraine claims significant gains.
He claimed there were indications of intentional slaughter and torture “in nearly every village and every town” when questioned about the mass graves discovered in Izyum in the Kharkiv region.
The number of rape and sexual assault cases involving women and children is also increasing. There were 40 instances when Mr. Kostin took over from his predecessor, Iryna Venediktova.
He stated that now, they are looking at more than 100 cases, including those from the Kherson region, where Russia has stated that it intends to withdraw hundreds of troops from the regional capital after eight months of occupation.
