Istanbul, Turkey – Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen showed remarkable solidarity on Sunday by dedicating his two goals in Galatasaray’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Samsunspor to injured teammate Mauro Icardi. Osimhen’s goals came early, giving Galatasaray the lead in the third minute, and again in the 55th minute, shortly after Jules Ntcham had equalized for the visitors.
Osimhen celebrated his goals by lifting Icardi’s shirt before Galatasaray fans at RAMS Park, paying tribute to his fellow forward, who recently suffered a significant injury. Icardi, 31, is facing surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a Europa League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September, Osimhen has been in stellar form, scoring six goals in the Turkish Super Lig and a total of eight across all competitions. His partnership with Icardi and Dries Mertens, another former Napoli teammate, has created a formidable offensive lineup, keeping Galatasaray in the lead in the league standings.
Injury Update: Icardi to Undergo Surgery
Galatasaray released a statement confirming that Icardi has not only a torn ACL in his right knee but also meniscus damage, requiring extensive surgery. Rehabilitation has begun as the striker prepares for surgery. Icardi has already missed games this season due to previous injuries, making this setback especially challenging for the team.
Osimhen and Galatasaray’s Campaign Ahead
As Galatasaray aims to maintain its lead in the Turkish Super Lig, the team is also competing in the Europa League, where they currently sit third. Osimhen’s continued form will be vital for Galatasaray in both domestic and European competitions.
