First Lady of Kebbi Gets Cancer Union Presidency Nomination

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, the First Lady of Kebbi State, has been nominated for the leadership of the Union for International Cancer Control.

The UICC, which includes key policymakers, researchers, and prevention and control professionals, represents the world’s leading cancer societies, ministries of health, and patient groups.

The organisation is committed to leading capacity-building and advocacy activities that unite and support the cancer community in order to reduce the global burden, promote greater equity, and ensure cancer control remains a priority on the global health and development agenda.

Ulrika Kagstrom of Sweden and Daiming Fan of China are the other candidates for the role.

Bagudu stated that if she is elected president of the organisation, she will address the global imbalances—both between and within countries—by adopting a new narrative and a new global viewpoint.

“If I am fortunate enough to become your President, I am the person who will drive that change,” she stated.

“Although the COVID-19 epidemic heightened the dialogue about health disparities, cancer is still battling to be included in talks about how to respond.”

“As President, I will prioritise the accessibility, affordability, and availability of the tools that we all require to combat these diseases.”
