Yabatech Unveils Ambitious Plans for Multi-level Centre Promoting Leadership & Student Engagement

Yaba College of Technology is set to build a multi-level Centre for leadership and engagement Students’ Union Building to be named after the first President of Yabatech Students Union Body and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hassan Sumonu.

The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul dropped this hint during a courtesy call paid to him by the Joint Campus Council, Lagos-axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Dr. Abdul revealed that the reconstruction of the student union building, which is as old as the college, has commenced with consultants commencing the preliminary work on inspection and drawings.

The building, he said, will also serve as an incubating Centre to nurture students business ideas and growth for development thereby metamorphosing into a full fledge organisation and also harbours the students Union body offices as desired.

Expanding on the commitment to student development, the Rector disclosed that the college will be awarding scholarships to students, empowering them with valuable skills.

“Additionally, plans are underway to establish science and technological incubation centers aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application; he said.”

According to him, “ a team of experts recently returned from China to inspect facilities which would help in growing the skills of the students and further make them field ready”

The visit, the Rector said, serves as a platform for constructive dialogue between the student body and the college administration, fostering a collaborative spirit towards creating an enhanced educational environment for all.

The Rector, however, expressed gratitude for their proactive engagement and reassured them that the college was diligently working on addressing their demands.Emphasizing the significance of student welfare, Dr. Abdul affirmed that students are at the top of his priority list.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos state branch earlier called for an upward review of education and student welfare in tertiary institutions.

During the visit, the student body led by its Chairman, Comrade Lekan Alimi, presented a list of requests aimed at improving the overall student experience in the institution.

He advocated for the reconstruction of the school’s student union building, an appeal for more reliable power supply and improvements in student welfare.
