The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has identified the officers that collected ₦5,000 Bribe from Chinese National in a viral video, vowing disciplinary actions against them. It officially condemned the conduct of officers seen in a viral video accepting a ₦5,000 bribe from a Chinese national, calling the act both unprofessional and unethical.

The video, which surfaced on social media platforms, showed uniformed police officers collecting what appeared to be ₦5,000 from a foreign national of Chinese descent, allegedly during routine duties. The footage has triggered public outrage, drawing widespread condemnation from Nigerians who viewed the act as a betrayal of public trust.

In response, the Force swiftly issued a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in which it distanced the institution from the disgraceful act and affirmed its commitment to accountability and ethical conduct.

Nigeria Police Reacts to Viral Video of ₦5,000 Bribe from Chinese National

“The Nigeria Police Force has viewed with great concern a video currently in circulation which depicts officers receiving a ₦5,000 bribe from a Chinese national. Such behavior is inconsistent with the core values and operational ethics of the NPF,” the statement read.

ACP Adejobi reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, bribery, and any form of misconduct, particularly when it tarnishes the integrity of the institution or erodes public confidence in law enforcement.

“This act is unprofessional and unethical. The Force condemns it in totality and will take appropriate disciplinary measures against the officers involved,” he added.

Officers Identified and Facing Disciplinary Action

According to the statement, the officers involved in the ₦5,000 bribe from Chinese national incident have been identified and subjected to internal disciplinary procedures. Although their names were not disclosed, ACP Adejobi confirmed that they are in custody and are currently under investigation by the police authorities.

This disciplinary move, he explained, is part of the police’s broader commitment to internal reform and the restoration of public confidence in the nation’s security apparatus.

He emphasized that the integrity of officers and the reputation of the Force must be preserved at all costs. “The Nigeria Police Force is committed to holding all personnel accountable for their actions, no matter how minor or major the infraction may appear,” Adejobi noted.

Force Reiterates Zero Tolerance for Police Misconduct

Beyond the immediate disciplinary response, the Force used the opportunity to send a clear warning to individuals and institutions that frequently engage the services of police personnel for escort and guard duties.

The Police warned that engaging in actions that demean or compromise police officers, including offering or soliciting bribes, would be met with strict consequences.

“We urge the public and organizations who make use of police personnel to act responsibly and refrain from any form of behavior that can negatively impact the image of the Force,” the statement added.

The Nigeria Police also reassured Nigerians of ongoing efforts to enforce professionalism, transparency, and discipline across all units and departments, stating that all personnel will be closely monitored and held accountable for their conduct on and off duty.

ACP Adejobi further urged Nigerians to continue using available channels to report police misconduct and corrupt practices, stressing that complaints will be treated with urgency and transparency.
