2025 AFCON: Super Eagles Drawn in Group C

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn into Group C of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The three-time champions aim to reclaim their position at the top of African football as they head to Morocco, determined to win their fourth AFCON title after narrowly missing out in the last tournament, losing the final to Côte d’Ivoire.


Group Stage Draw Overview

The AFCON 2025 draw, held in Rabat, Morocco, unveiled the following groups:

  • Group A: Morocco (hosts), Mali, Zambia, Comoros
  • Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe
  • Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania
  • Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana
  • Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan
  • Group F: Ivory Coast (holders), Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique

Nigeria’s Group C Opponents

  1. Tunisia: A seasoned AFCON competitor and former champion (2004), Tunisia presents a significant challenge for Nigeria.
  2. Uganda: Known for their tenacity and disciplined gameplay, Uganda could be a wildcard in this group.
  3. Tanzania: Though not historically dominant, Tanzania’s youthful energy and potential make them unpredictable opponents.

Nigeria’s AFCON Legacy

The Super Eagles boast an impressive AFCON history, with championship victories in:

  • 1980 (on home soil),
  • 1994 (in Tunisia), and
  • 2013 (in South Africa).

Tournament Schedule

The 2025 AFCON will commence on December 21, 2025, with the group stage running until December 31, excluding Christmas Day.

The knockout stages will proceed as follows:

  • Round of 16: January 3–6, 2026
  • Quarter-finals: January 9–10, 2026
  • Semi-finals: January 14, 2026
  • Third-Place Playoff: January 17, 2026
  • Final: January 18, 2026
